Event Overview

The NSW Police & Emergency Services Games Badminton event is the first time that this sport has been offered at this event. It is to be held on Saturday, 19th October starting at 9.30am. We encourage everyone to register and compete in this event, to ensure its success and return in 2021.

The Beaton Park Leisure Centre, is a great facility. For information regarding the centre phone: 02.4227.7755 or email: leisurecentres@wollongong.nsw.gov.au. Any information regarding the Badminton event itself, please contact the Sports Coordinator.

Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net.  It involves a combination of physical, technical, tactical skills and is the fastest racket sport in the world, with smashes recorded above 400km/h when played at the highest level. Looking forward to an amazing debut event this year.

Event Rules

Matches will be played in either a Round Robin Format or Double Elimination format depending on number of entries in each event category.

Each match will consist of 2 sets to 21 points with deuce from 20-20 onwards, to be decided by a lead of 2 consecutive points; i.e. 22-20; to a maximum cap at 30 points.

Basic rules (as per Badminton Australia):

Rallies begin with an underarm serve and points can be scored by landing the shuttlecock in your opponent’s court; or by forcing your opponent to hit the shuttlecock out of the court area; or by forcing your opponent to hit the shuttlecock into the net; or by striking your opponent’s body with the shuttlecock. A point is scored every time there is a serve. The side winning a rally adds a point to its score.

Event Description

Badminton has never been held before at the NSW Police & ES Games and currently there is no NSW Police Badminton Club affiliated to the NSW Police Council of Sport to support this event.  However, it was held at both the 2016 Sunshine Coast APESG, and most recently the 2018 Mandurah APESG.
