The 2019 NSW Police & Emergency Services Games Mixed Hockey (indoor with outdoor rules) event will commence at 9.30am at the Illawarra Hockey Stadium, Waples Road, Unanderra.
This event has been and will continue to be a very social but competitive competition. For the first time, the NSW Police Hockey Club have chosen to run the event as an indoor mixed hockey event.
Indoor hockey, is a variation of outdoor field hockey. It is an excellent way to improve fitness and stick skills because of its intensity and the smaller space it is played in.
An indoor hockey team comprises of a maximum of 11 players with only six, including the goalkeeper on the pitch at any one time, with up to 5 substitutes. The makeup of male to female ratio, is yet to be advised. Contact Sports Coordinators to verify.
The field of play is much smaller, with a hard surface such as sports hall, with boards along the sidelines that prevent the ball from going out of play at the side.
Modified outdoor hockey rules will apply.
No hitting or flicking the ball as this is a social fun day pushing only.
If you are interested in playing and are unable to form a team from your work please contact one of the listed Sports Coordinators who will endeavour to place you in a team.
The indoor hockey will be played with teams consisting of 5 field players, 1 goal keeper or other player with keeper privileges (must wear a helmet) and up to a maximum of five sub’s. Maximum number of players per team is 10. Similarly, the duration of the matches will be determined by the number of teams entered (15-20 minute halves)
Team shirts are required to be worn during competition, as must long socks and shin pads. Jewellery and peak caps are not permitted. Match balls will be supplied, however, teams are required to bring their own equipment including goal keeping gear.
The indoor hockey event is open to adults and children* ages 14 and above (subject to approval) and is a mixed competition only.
This event has previously been played on an outdoor field, so I encourage all agencies to register teams for fun, fitness and competition in preparation for the 2020 AP&ES Games in Wollongong which will be a full outdoor tournament.
Team Managers register your team early to avoid disappointment.
See you in the Gong this October!
