Competitor information for the 2019 NSW Police & ES Games Triathlon
Location of course can be found in the Wollongong UBD Map 26.
Registration and transition will be at the 5 Islands Senior College. Also known as Illawarra Senior College. Gloucester Boulevard, Port Kembla. Parking will be on the street. It’s a very quiet neighbourhood.
Registration is from 6.15am to 6.45am with a race and course briefing at 6.40am and race starts at 7am. Don’t be late!
We will walk to Fisherman’s Beach to commence the race. The race will start at 7.00am. Timing chips will be supplied. At the completion of each race leg the competitor must run over the blue timing mat near the transition area.
Fisherman’s Beach. (UBD Map 26, G 14.) The swim leg will be at Fisherman’s Beach. It is open water, very clean and swimmers can expect a slight swell across the swim course. Port Kembla Surf Life Saving will be in charge of water safety. If the water is rough or choppy the swim leg may be shortened or deleted. A decision will be made on the day. One lap for the enticer race, 3 laps for the sprint race. It is a 400 metre dash to the transition area.
The bike course runs from a small hill near the college with a gentle slope following the coastline to the turnaround point. It is a 9 lap course for the sprint race, 4 laps for the enticer course. It’s an excellent course for spectators. Competitors must keep count of their laps. The road will be blocked to general traffic. However it may be necessary to allow local residents to leave or return home. There is strictly no overtaking in the 50 metre approach to the turnaround points. Turnaround points located at UBD map 26 E 11 and F14.
The run leg is parallel to the bike course. It is on a concrete bike path with fantastic ocean views. One lap for the enticer race and 2 laps for the sprint race. There will be no water on the run course. Competitors can take their water bottle and leave it at the run turn around if they wish, however most competitors refuel at the finish line. Refreshments will be provided.
The Illawarra Triathlon Club will be hosting the event. There will be marshals assisting. Look for bright coloured vest. The course is great for spectators and they are most welcome. Port Kembla is 10 minutes drive south of Wollongong.

The triathlon event will cater also for an open team’s event, as well as all standard age groups will apply. The course is spectator friendly so we encourage spectators to enjoy the friendly atmosphere of competition.
The event consists of three races:
1. Sprint Race (750m swim, 20km cycle and 2.5km run),
2. Enticer Race (250m swim, 10okm cycle and 2.5km run),
3. Open Team Race (750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run).
Assistance throughout the event will be provided by the Illawarra Triathlon Club.
