The NSW Police Games this year has seen mixed results, with some sports achieving better participation figures than last year whilst others showed a decline.

Overall the 2010 NSW Police Games saw 1,046 sports events contested (by 1008 individuals) across the 26 events. In comparison, 2009 saw record numbers due to the 25 Year Anniversary where 1,348 individuals competed in 1,458 sports events.

Among the favourite sports contested this year of mixed Basketball, Equestrian, mixed Oz Tag, Sailing and field Soccer, the introduction of Open Water Swimming (in replace of Swimming) has proved a daring but successful venture by the NSW Police Swimming Club, with nineteen eager individuals contesting this inaugural event.

The final figures gathered from the event, also indicated that 35% of those competing prefer to register on the day, which can prove harrowing for Sports Coordinators and those responsible for the event. So I encourage you all now, to register online prior to the event next year, to assist with the staging on the day.

Open to all emergency services and immediate family the Games continue to be about having a great time & meeting people. Once again, 2010 saw a wide range of emergency services represented. We thank you for your support and look forward to catching up with you all in 2011.

Held in one of the state’s most popular areas, Blacktown City, the Games participants enjoyed competing at world-class sports and leisure facilities and venues, such as Blacktown Olympic Park and Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope.

These facilities are not found anywhere else in the state, so on behalf of the NSW Police Council of Sport and the NSW Police Games Committee; I wish to thank the Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles and his staff for their continued support of this event over the past eight years.

Thank you to Multi-Sport Australia – Vivian Ip and Carol Lees for their support and professionalism in coordinating the registration system for these Games, and to Noel Gilbert (Central Media) for the professional publications – Registration and Results Book that is published yearly.

Thank you to Emma Koster, guest speaker at the Games Launch, who inspired us with her achievements in netball.

Finally, to our major sponsors Blacktown City Council and the Police Credit Union, your continual support over the past eight years has been greatly appreciated. We hope to see this relationship continue and grow for any years to come.

See you in 2010!
