2008 what a year for NSW Police Games!

The NSW Police Games, for the sixth year in a row, reached amazing participation numbers with over 1,204 participants (up from 1,152 competitors in 2007) contesting the twenty seven events staged across the 9 days of competition.

Held in one of the state’s most popular areas, Blacktown City, the Games participants enjoyed competing at world-class sports and leisure facilities and venues, such as Blacktown Olympic Park and Blacktown Leisure Centre – Stanhope. Thank you to the Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly and his staff for supporting this event. 2009 marks the 25 Year Anniversary of the NSW Police Games.

Open to all emergency services and immediate family these Games continue to be about having a great time & meeting people. This year saw a wide range of emergency services represented from the NSW Ambulance (70 participants), Australian Federal Police (108), Australian Protective Service (3), Corrections (204), Customs (23), Fire Brigade (95), Police (613), Public Service (7), Retired Police (13), Rural Fire Service (4), Sheriff’s Dept (3), State Emergency Service (3) to immediate family members, staff of Blacktown City Council (43), the Police Credit Union (5), Volunteers in Policing Unit (3) and Other (83).

Along with the yearly favourite sports of softball (136), Oz Tag (162) and soccer (field) (207) the introduction of two new sports – Enduro Cross and Paintball were a success adding a new dimension to the Games.

Soccer (field) was the highest attended sport for this year’s NSW Police Games with 207 participants (152 male and 55 female) contesting the one day event. Congratulations to Detective Senior Constable Matt Treston – State Crime Command Parramatta and Detective Inspector Stephen Newton – Professional Standards Command, who co-ordinated the event. Well done on an amazing effort.
